Mira Loma Jail Facility:
In 1983, the facility re-opened due to jail overcrowding and expanded in 1986 to include female inmates.
The Mira Loma Custody Facility closed in 1993 due to County budget cuts. It was then re-opened in 1997, when the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department entered into a contract with the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service to house Federal detainees awaiting deportation hearings.
Mira Loma Detention Center currently houses medium-security Federal detainees representing over sixty countries world-wide. The detainees live in barrack-style housing and have daily access to medical services, recreation, library, and stores. Religious and school programs are also available to the detainees. Federal judges conduct on-site deportation hearings.
